‘Epic Groups’ impact San Francisco’s varied cultures
SAN FRANCISCO (NAMB)—There are more affluent places in the United States than San Francisco, but not many. Living in that environment can numb people to need. Ben Pilgreen knows God is in the perspective-changing business.
Pilgreen and his team, including wife, Shauna, launched Epic Church in the fine arts district of San Francisco two years ago. He led Epic’s first international missions experience in summer 2012, to Uganda.

VANCOUVER (NAMB)—Victor and Candice Thomas landed in Vancouver, British Columbia, promising they’d never stay—that was five years ago. They arrived in 2007, so Victor could start a four-month stint as a researcher at Simon Fraser University—what Victor called an extended honeymoon for the newlyweds. His study focused on environmental science and poverty. But the young South African entrepreneurs found a new calling in Burnaby, a quick train-ride from downtown Vancouver.

Filipino pastor plants church much like the one he first attended
PHILADELPHIA (NAMB)—If anyone understands the impact church planting and evangelism can have on someone, it’s Peter Yanes. Together, the two changed his life.
Born and raised in the islands of the Philippines, Yanes grew up in a predominantly Roman Catholic nation with a family deeply devoted to the church. Yanes himself spent much of his youth serving as an altar boy with aspirations of one day becoming a priest.

Tangible love & support bridges to Christ, she says
NEW ORLEANS (NAMB)—Several years ago, Melanie found herself in a desperate situation. Homeless and struggling with substance abuse, she was pregnant and sleeping under a bridge in Oklahoma City. Life seemed hopeless. A newspaper article caught her eye, emphasizing the city of New Orleans struggling to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. Desperate to rebuild her life as well, Melanie set out for New Orleans and on the path to a divine appointment with LoveLoud missionary Kay Bennett.

SAN DIEGO (BP)—North American Mission Board President Kevin Ezell expressed gratitude to Southern Baptists whose giving to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering increased 1.9 percent in 2012.
The gain, Ezell said during NAMBs trustees’ Feb. 5-6 meeting in San Diego, will translate into greater effectiveness in reaching North America for Christ.
