NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)—SBC registration secretary Jim Wells has released official registration figures for the 2014 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Baltimore.

A total of 5,298 messengers were sent by 2,257 churches from 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Only North Dakota sent no messengers.

BALTIMORE (BP)—In a year when the Southern Baptist Convention focused on "Restoration & Revival Through Prayer," Arkansas pastor Ronnie Floyd, who has sought to encourage Southern Baptists to deepen their spiritual walk through books, Sunday School studies and pastor prayer meetings, has been elected as the SBC's president.

Floyd, pastor of Cross Church in northwest Arkansas for 27 years, topped Maryland pastor Dennis Manpoong Kim and Kentucky pastor Jared Moore to win the SBC post June 10.

That was the prediction given by Russell Moore, who is president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the Southern Baptist Convention entity assigned to address social, moral and ethical issues.
