Alachua


Peter S. Van Pelt retired May 26 after six years as pastor of Adamsville Baptist Church in Wildwood. He will continue teaching at the Orlando extensions of the Baptist College of Florida and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His wife, Sandra, recently received a Ph.D. from University of Mississippi and is professor of English at Lake-Sumter Community College in Clermont. Choctaw


Twenty-two members of Choctaw Baptist Association churches are conducting Backyard Bible Clubs and leading revival meetings in West Virginia this week. They are working with Calvary Baptist Church in Webster Springs, and Mountain Marketplace Mission and Cowen communities. The group will return  to Florida June 21.

Greater Orlando


First Baptist Church in Orlando has called Stephen Whitaker as headmaster of the First Academy. The West Palm Beach native earned the M.Ed., and is a candidate for a Ph.D. from University of Louisville (Ky.) College of Education. He, his wife, Tricia, and three children will move to Orlando from Louisville, where he was headmaster of Highview Baptist School.

Jacksonville


Southside Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir will present “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” June 29 at 7 p.m. The program will include patriotic songs, hymns, classics and spirituals under the direction of minister of music Eddie Lockamy. For more information, call 904-396-6633.
Terry Parker Baptist Church will host its third annual Car and Truck Show July 5, beginning at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the best cars and trucks in several classes.
