PENSACOLA (FBW)-As the first night of the Florida Baptist Pastor's Conference was underway at Olive Baptist Church, forecasters issued a hurricane warning for the Gulf Coast from Mississippi to Florida.

The National Hurricane Center, Sunday night Nov. 8, issued the warning as Hurricane Ida with winds around 105 mph approached.
With the Panhandle feeding unit for the Florida Baptist Convention Disaster Relief ministry already in the parking lot in anticipation of the State Convention annual meeting, all units and volunteers in Region 1 and 2 have been placed on alert, according to Fritz Wilson, director of the Convention's Disaster Relief department.
The unit has enough equipment and volunteers to prepare 10,000 per day, if needed.

Wilson said cleanup units and volunteers across the Panhandle are asked to begin to make preparations to be ready to respond if needed.
"This is a precautionary measure simply to begin the process of being ready to respond if needed," Wilson said.
Wilson said, in a news release from the Convention, he does not anticipate a large storm in the area, however, but only "blustery and rainy" days with an estimated 3-5 inches.
Local officials, according to the Pensacola News Journal, announced school closings for two days and voluntary evacuations Monday of residents on Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key, and those living south of Gulf Beach Highway and living in a mobile home.
