GRACEVILLE (BCF)—Internships are over. Portfolios are finished. Finals are graded. A collective sigh of relief from students at The Baptist College of Florida in Graceville has swept the campus. For 56 BCF seniors, the end of the fall 2009 semester brought more than just Christmas break, it brought an inspiring commencement exercise and a charge for the future.

The new graduates were joined by family and friends Dec. 11, to share in the commencement ceremony. For many, it was an honor bestowed for years of hard work, sacrifice, and late night study. For all of the graduates, it was confirmation of God’s call on their lives and a new chapter.

Among the graduates were husband and wife, Josh and Ashley Gussler, and brother and sister, JoLynne and Jason Fross. Graduate Whitney Gillis was BCF’s first recipient of the new bachelor of arts degree in history and social studies.

Don Odom, BCF’s chair of the music and worship division led in congregational singing after the graduates marched into the assembly center to cheers and applause. The BCF College Singers performed “Expressions of Gratitude,” a school favorite and a graduation tradition.

BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen’s addressed graduates referencing the third chapter of Acts.

“What will you do on the way to the rest of your life?” Kinchen asked. “What will you do on the way to the ministry that God has given you? Take joy in the journey. Don’t be so busy that you lose sight of the lame, the blind, the lost!”

Kinchen and senior vice president R.C. Hammack conferred the degrees while the words to the college hymn, “Tell Me the Story of Jesus,” resonated throughout the auditorium.
