NEW ORLEANS (FBW)—First published in 1978, Baptist Dishes Worth Blessing, is a unique cookbook compiled by students, faculty and alumni of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

With a new second edition scheduled to be released in January, the classic guide offers “practical culinary solutions” for an assortment of events, according to a press release.

Sections include tips for “How to Plan a Party,” “Special Touches,” and “Weights and Measures.”

A short “History of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary” has been updated to include the challenges following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The first edition of the book was reprinted in 1980, 1982 and 1987 by Pelican Publishing Company, Inc.

Jo Ann Leavell, wife of the late Landrum P. Leavell, president emeritus of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, is the cookbook’s editor.

In the forward to the cookbook, Rhonda Harrington Kelley, a seminary professor and the wife of Chuck Kelley, current NOBTS president, reminds readers Baptists often define “fellowship” with “food.”

“New Orleans is a city well known for its delicious cuisine. And New Orleanians love to eat,” Kelley writes. “So it is truly providential that God placed a Baptist seminary in New Orleans, since Baptists love to eat, too.”
