State Board of Missions member Jimmy Shaw dies

DAVENPORT (FBC) – State Board of Missions member Jimmy Shaw, 71, died Saturday, Dec. 15 of heart failure. He served as the congregational care pastor at Four Corners Baptist Church in Davenport. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m.-11a.m.; with services beginning at 11 a.m. at Four Corners Baptist Church. Oak Ridge Funeral Care is handling arrangements.

He was born in Somerset, Penn. in 1941. He moved to Mississippi during his early childhood and then to Syracuse, New York.  There he graduated from Cazenovia High School in 1959.

In August, 1959, after graduation, he married the love of his life, Phyllis. Jimmy has worked as a farmer. He also worked in a slaughter house, meat market and over the road truck driver. He worked with Transport for Christ for four years. He was a private fleet manager and retired in 1998. He has been an active deacon since 1972 and served as Chairman of Deacons at the church. He has also served with Habitat for Humanity. He later was ordained as a minister and became the Church Administrator at Four Corners Baptist Church in 2007, before his present role.

Jimmy Shaw began serving on the State Board in 2009. He was elected in November to another three-year term.
