HOUSTON (BP)—Small-group Bible study tools, movie screenings and book signings by leading Christian authors are planned by LifeWay Christian Resources for the June 11-12 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Houston.

Ronnie Floyd, senior pastor of Cross Church in Springdale, Ark., and leader of a Bible Studies for Life advisory council will join LifeWay President Thom S. Rainer and Vice President Eric Geiger in introducing LifeWay’s most popular Bible study series.

Messengers also are invited to a panel discussion on Christ-centered preaching and teaching featuring Ed Stetzer and Trevin Wax, general and managing editors of The Gospel Project, LifeWay’s newest small-group Bible study material. 

The free breakfast/panel discussion will be 6:30-8 a.m., Tuesday, June 11 in Room 351A-F of the George R. Brown Convention Center. Pre-registration is required at GospelProject.com/SBC13. Attendees will receive free resources on Christ-centered preaching and teaching.

A documentary about the impact of “Experiencing God,” a study that influenced a generation—the first release of LifeWay Films—will be shown June 11 and 12 noon-1 p.m.

An advance screening of “Grace Unplugged,” slated for theatrical release Oct. 4, will be held June 11 at 9 p.m. at the convention center. All screenings for Grace Unplugged and Experiencing God will be in General Assembly Room C on Level 3 of the convention center and are free.

Book signings are scheduled throughout the convention by B&H Publishing Group, including authors Stetzer, John Bisagno, Daniel Akin, Diana Davis, David Dockery, Rhonda Kelley, Ken Hemphill, Jeff Iorg, Ron Owens, Dorothy Patterson and Elmer Towns.

Other meetings in conjunction with the SBC include:

►GuideStone Financial Resources will offer a seminar on church security, featuring a survivor of the horrific 1999 church massacre that killed seven people and wounded seven others at Wedgwood Baptist Church in Texas. 

Jeff Laster, an associate pastor at Wedgwood in Fort Worth and a survivor of the shooting there, will participate in a panel discussion in part two of the seminar on Wednesday, June 12 from 7:30-8:30 a.m. in Room 362B on Level 3 of the George R. Brown Convention Center. Risk management and legal experts will join Laster on the panel.

Part one of the seminar, June 11 from 8-9 a.m. in the same room, will feature an industry expert from Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company to discuss how to address safety concerns. Seating is limited for the free seminar that includes a complimentary hot breakfast on both days. Retirement experts will be on hand June 10 from 3-4 p.m., June 11 from 9-10 a.m. and 3-4 p.m. and June 12 from 9-10 a.m. in Room 350F of the convention center to discuss GuideStone’s retirement income options. Pre-registration is recommended at www.GuideStone.org/SBC13 or onsite but not required.

GuideStone will make available its popular wellness center with free blood-based screenings valued at $150. For best results, fast at least 12 hours prior to screenings.
