ATLANTA (FBW)—Charles L. Davis, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church in North Miami Beach, died Aug. 1 in Atlanta. He was 88.
Davis served churches in Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida during his 66 years in the pastorate. He also served as a teacher and principal for six years while attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Davis served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
He served as a moderator and chairman of the Executive Committee of the Georgia South Metro Baptist Association, and president of pastors’ conferences. He participated in missions in the Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Korea, England and France.
Davis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice; a daughter, Jan Freeman; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Charles Davis in 1982.
