Florida churches earn ‘LINKie’ awards
Oct 1, 2003

NEWBERRY (FBW)–Joining a growing list of churches jumping into what is quickly becoming a primary mode of communication in the 21st century, Jonesville Baptist Church in Newberry is one of two Florida churches recognized nationally for their innovative use of an internet Web site.

Jonesville Baptist, at www.jonesvillebaptist.com, won the top "Plus" LINKie award for their site from LifeWay Christian Resources’ LifeWayLINK service. First Baptist Church of Dunedin, at www.fbcdunedin.com , earned an Honorable Mention in the same category.

The Web site service was designed in 2001 to empower churches to create sites that could reach people through both outreach and inreach, according to a news release from LifeWay. Since its launch, nearly 5,000 churches and ministries have signed on.

The Florida churches were among 14 churches nationwide, two Baptist associations and one state convention to earn awards following the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in Phoenix in June.

Corey Cherime, pastor of Jonesville Baptist, told Florida Baptist Witness the church developed their site two years ago in order to "capture the faces of real people" and offer "real time information."

Cherime said the church is constantly looking for ways to reach into their community in a proactive way and that they had no idea they would win such a prestigious award.

"We are very humbled by [the award]," Cherime said. "I think it encouraged the church greatly. It makes you think you are doing something right."
