One of America’s favorite families of gospel music, The Hoppers, continues to receive recognition and awards for a lifetime of spreading the gospel through music.  Over the years, the accolades include Favorite Mixed Group, Favorite Soprano, Favorite Female Vocalist, Soprano Singer of the Year, and the 2012 Singing News Fan Award for Favorite Soprano and Favorite Female Singer. The Hoppers have been popular guest performers on the Gaither Homecoming Tour and viewers always receive a blessing when they appear on the program.

Opening for The Hoppers will be the Southern Gospel group Mercy Revealed.  Solo artist Stan Cook and Laura Tice have combined their talents last year with the sole purpose of revealing the great mercy of God through Jesus Christ in song.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and tickets for the evening can be purchased for $12 in the BCF business office by calling 850-263-3261, ext. 418 or visiting the BCF website at www.baptistcollege.edu

FACULTY MEMBER HONORED

Dr. Susan Wegmann, chair of the teacher education division at BCF, recently received the hard copy of the edited book Blended Learning Research Perspectives, Vol. 2, which includes a chapter she wrote on SCOPe-ing out interactions in blended learning environments.

Wegmann said the published chapter reveals a new way to track student engagement and participation in blended classes, or those that have online and face-to-face components.

“Often instructors are so overwhelmed with grading and managing lectures that they don’t have opportunities or tools to gauge students’ reflections, interactions with other students, the text, or the platform (i.e. computer),” Wegman said.

She and her colleague, Dr. Kelvin Thompson from the University of Central Florida, have been investigating a series of checklists and surveys they call “SCOPe” – which identifies the following interaction possibilities: Students, Content, Others, and Platform.

Findings from their previous research suggest that SCOPe accurately measures the level of engagement and participation in blended classes, and that the SCOPe checklists can help instructors identify areas of need in order to increase student engagement and participation.

The recently published chapter was the first in a series that Wegmann and Thompson hope to produce, as they have opportunity to refine SCOPe and further research the topic.

For more information on the SCOPe checklists or the teacher education degree at BCF, call 800-328-2660 ext. 460.
