Thomas A. Cleary, who served as Baptist campus minister at the University of South Florida and the Tampa area  from 1981–1990, died March 19 after suffering a ruptured aneurysm earlier in the month. He died in Tampa at the age of 76.

Prior to joining the Florida Baptist Convention staff, Cleary was a missionary in Austria, appointed by what was then the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in 1971. Upon his resignation from the Convention, he and his wife Joyce returned to the mission field in Poland through the FMB.

During his ministry, Cleary, who called Mt. Dora his hometown,  also served Florida Baptist churches in East Point, Fruitland Park and Tampa.

He and his wife had two sons, Timothy Andrew and Michael David.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held this Saturday at Bayshore Baptist Church, located at 3111 W. Morrison Ave. in Tampa. The service will begin at 11 a.m.
