Floridians earn Southwestern Seminary degrees

Two students claiming Florida as their home state graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, during the spring commencement on May 9.

Robert Powell of Orange Park (First Baptist Church, Orange Park) received a Master of Arts in Christian Education. Jenna Rice of Palatka (First Baptist Church, Jacksonville) received a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling.

Degrees were conferred on 200 students at the seminary’s spring commencement exercises. That number included 27 undergraduate degrees, 153 master's degrees and 26 doctoral degrees.

President Paige Patterson gave the commencement message before awarding degrees from the School of Theology, School of Church and Family Ministries, School of Church Music, School of Evangelism and Missions and the College at Southwestern.

Students from 43 states and 41 countries are enrolled at Southwestern Seminary. More than 43,000 students have graduated from the seminary since it was founded in 1908.
