|GROUNDBREAKING Gardner Baptist Church in Zolfo Springs recently broke ground for a new church sanctuary on the west side of Highway 17. The campus on the east side of the highway that had been home to the church since 1953 was claimed by eminent domain in the widening of the highway to four lanes. The church purchased land south of the church cemetery, across the highway from its former location.|
Parkview Baptist Church in Lake City will celebrate its 60th anniversary Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. Former pastor Doyle Bell will preach, and the Parkview Music Ministry will sing under the leadership of Brent Kuykendall. Beulah Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs has called Tommy Carter as lead pastor. Carter, who has been in ministry since 2004, is a graduate of Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, and is currently enrolled in the M.Div. program at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Carter and his wife, April, have two daughters.
Eastside Baptist Church in Marianna has called Jeffrey Basford as youth pastor. He is a senior at The Baptist College of Florida in Graceville and serving in his first church staff position. Basford is a Marianna native.
Emerald Coast Baptist Fellowship honored Administrative Assistant Gail Day July 16 on her retirement after 20 years with the association. She served with three directors of missions: Richard Martin, Hershel Adams and Roy Saint.
Concordia Baptist Church in Havana will celebrate its 156-year homecoming on Sept. 14. Billy Hudson and girls from the Lighthouse Children's Home will sing during the service, beginning at 10:15 a.m., followed by a covered dish dinner at noon in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.
First Baptist Church of Central Florida in Orlando has honored Dexter Johnson for 30 years of serving the church as minister of music and associate pastor. Johnson has “used his giftedness to lead our choir, orchestra and congregation in exciting worship,” according to a press release from the church.
First Baptist Church in Chiefland will celebrate its Centennial Anniversary Aug. 2-3. The observance will begin with an ice cream social on Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. The centennial service will be Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. with former pastors Thomas Kennedy, Gerard Howell and Darel Mitchell.
