Based on 73 percent of the precincts reporting as of 10:45 p.m. and 62 percent approving the amendment, John Stemberger, chairman of Yes2Marriage.org, is confident when all the votes are counted the measure will be approved by more than the 60 percent threshold required to pass constitutional amendments.

The statewide vote brings to a close a campaign to protect marriage begun when the Florida Baptist State Convention adopted a resolution in 2004 urging the state to address the matter in the state constitution.
