He was preceded in death by his wife Betty and a daughter, and is survived by a daughter, Catherine Carmichael and a son, David Brock; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
During Brock’s tenure as DOM, the association of 18 churches led the fight against alcohol sales in Washington County. It also offers several ministries to the poor of the rural county including The Armstrong House, offering temporary shelter for the homeless; The Pregnancy and Family Center; and the Warehouse Thrift Store.
Craig Culbreth, lead strategist of the Missional Support Group of the Florida Baptist Convention, worked several years with Brock. He described him as “a man from ‘The Greatest Generation.’”
“This automatically puts him in wonderful group,” Culbreth said of Brock. “He served his country and his Lord faithfully.
“Alcus always saw his role as one of encourager. He loved pastors and their families. As he went through his wife’s death and his health issues, he always was talking and thinking of others. He will be missed,” Culbreth said.
Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 23, 5-9 p.m. at Brown Chapel, 912 Brickyard Rd. in Chipley; and a memorial service is at the same location Thursday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m.
The family requests that donations be made to the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, 8415 Buck Lake Road, Tallahassee, FL 32317 or West Florida Baptist Association, 1641 Brickyard Road, Chipley FL 32428.
