TALLAHASSEE (FLBaptist)—Theological education along the I-10 corridor just became more convenient for ministry students in North Florida with the establishment of a New Orleans Theological Seminary extension center in Tallahassee, just minutes from the interstate highway.
The extension site, part of the Florida Baptist Convention’s network of theological education in the state, will move from Graceville to Tallahassee’s Thomasville Road Baptist Church with classes beginning this fall.
The move to Tallahassee resulted from a desire to make NOBTS Master’s courses more accessible to students along the I-10 corridor between Pensacola and Jacksonville, said Doug Watkins, team strategist for the Convention’s theological education ministries team.
“And it further expands Dr. John Sullivan’s dream of making theological education available within one—and-a-half and two hours of all Florida Baptists,” he explained.
Sullivan, executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention, has long been a champion of theological education throughout the state. Classes are offered in Miami, Broward County, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa and Pensacola.
Classes offered at the Tallahassee site this fall will include: “Introduction to Hebrew Grammar,” “Spiritual Formation 1,” “History of Christianity 1” and “Proclaiming the Bible.”
Classes meet on Mondays Aug. 25; Sept. 8 and 22; Oct. 6 and 20; Nov. 3 and 17 and Dec. 1.
Roy Saint, director of missions for the Emerald Coast Fellowship of Churches, has been named director of the Tallahassee extension center and can be contacted at 904-910-3040 or by email: email@example.com.
A luncheon will be held for persons interested in learning about or attending classes at the new site Thursday, May 22 from 11a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Reserve space by contacting Saint.
Thomasville Road Baptist Church is located at 3131 Thomasville Road in Tallahassee.
