JACKSONVILLE (FBC)-The Southern Baptist Convention has designated May 4-11, 2003, as Christian Home Week. The week begins with Senior Adult Day and concludes on Mothers' Day. Churches are encouraged to include single adults, single parents and widows in their congregation's Christian Home Week festivities.
The Florida Baptist Convention Discipleship and Family Department is providing some valuable tips to help churches observe that week in their congregations.
May 4 is Senior Adult Day. For suggestions on this observance, see the February 2003 issue of Mature Living magazine.
For worship resources for Mothers' Day, May 11, review the website www.LNYhymns.com, click on New Hymns and look at "Special Day Hymns to Familiar Tunes." The new hymns have themes on relationships, family and Mother's Day.
Church leaders may also want to refer to the Spring 2003 issue of "Let's Worship," a magazine filled with ideas for worship on Mother's Day and Family Sunday. In that issue are ideas and suggestions for Mother's Day; six family worship experiences; worship services; drama; sermon suggestions with drama sketches; baby dedication; graduate recognition; Mother's Day and Father's Day dramas; and children's worship bulletins
The SBC designated Single Adult Sunday is Sept. 14, 2003. Materials related to that observance will be available in early Summer.
The department has included other valuable resources for
